Honorary Members of the Societas Uralo-Altaica
A distinctive aspect of the General Assemblies of the Societas Uralo-Altaica has always been the appointment of honorary members. Already at the meeting held on July 31, 1952, six distinguished scholars were elected as honorary members upon the proposal of Julius von Farkas: Carl Brockelmann, Jean Joseph Thadée Deny, Ernst Lewy, Gyula Németh, Nikolaus Poppe, and Yrjö Henrik Toivonen. These appointments of honorary members established a lasting tradition.
